Anesthetic Equipment

Animal Eye Care is proud to provide technologically advanced veterinary anesthetic and monitoring equipment. However, the most important component to anesthesia is good nursing and technical support, and our surgical nurses are excellent caregivers for our surgical patients. Every patient undergoing general anesthesia has an intravenous catheter placed and intravenous fluids are delivered during anesthesia. Additionally, every patient is kept warm with a special warm water circulating heating pad. Furthermore, every patient receiving general anesthesia is placed on a ventilator anesthetic machine, which means that the machine assists in the breathing of the patient at all times.

When a patient undergoes general anesthesia at Animal Eye Care, the following parameters are monitored: pulse, heart rate, ECG, temperature, respiration, oxygen level, blood pressure, and carbon dioxide level.

The following lists an overview of our anesthetic equipment:

Engler ADS 1000 Anesthetic Machine and Ventilator

Engler ADS 1000
This is a microprocessor-controlled anesthesia machine and ventilator, meaning that at all times, the machine is assisting in breathing for the anesthetized patient. The microprocessor simultaneously senses the proximal airway pressure, inspiratory time, breaths per minute, flow rate, and then calculates a minute volume per Kg of the patient's weight based on these parameters. The ventilator also senses any negative proximal pressure, and depending on the amplitude of this pressure, determines whether or not to give an assisted breath to the patient. The unit electronically controls flow rate, breaths per minute, peak inspiratory pressure, inspiration assist, and positive end expiratory pressure. The ventilator may be used to safely deliver anesthesia while avoiding the risk of anesthesia-related respiratory depression. This type of anesthesia machine is very helpful when doing intraocular surgery when neuromuscular drugs are used to control ocular movement.

Surgivet V404 Plus MONITOR

Surgivet V404 Plus MONITOR
This monitor is an ECG, Pulse Oximeter, respiration and Temperature monitor. The ECG is presented on the screen continuously in a waveform while the monitor beeps with each heartbeat. The Oximeter continuously measures and displays arterial blood oxygen saturation, pulse rate, and pulse strength. The Temperature is measured continuously and displayed alternating with the respiration rate. It may be measured in degrees of Celsius or Fahrenheit. The respiration is alternately displayed with the temperature.

Surgivet Non-invasive Blood Pressure Monitor/Pulse Oximeter Unit

Surgivet Blood Pressure Monitor/Pulse Oximeter
The Non-Invasive Blood Pressure/ Pulse Oximeter Monitor is used for monitoring of an anesthetized patientıs systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial pressure, pulse rate, and oximetry. Oximetry is the measurement of how well the anesthetized patient's lungs are delivering oxygen to the blood. The monitor provides continual, real time updates of all measured values, and alarm or alert messages.

Surgivet Capnographer

Surgivet Capnographer
Capnography is the measurement of the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air as it is breathed in and out by the anesthetized patient. When CO2 levels are abnormal, it is a rapid indication of a potential concern under anesthesia, and is an extremely important anesthetic monitoring device.

This monitor performs side-stream capnography and continuously displays end-tidal CO2 AND inspired CO2 as well as respiratory rate. The end-tidal and inspired CO2 measurements are displayed in a waveform on the screen.
